- I am not sure they would, they were pretty thuroughly condtioned to slavery and obeying orders without question. We may have come across at the itme as just another enslaving force.

- Don't you think the parents would have asked us about their children? I mean I don't remember checking every room the way Lord Pern says we did, but maybe I was busy with something else when he did that. I think if we were taking someone away from their children, they'd have told us. I certainly would have if I had any children.

- We asked the humans if thier was anyone else, and it's not the house went up in a billow of flames. It was a slow conflagration that allowed plenty of time for anyone to escape the flames.

- We almost certainly did not gather everyone, there may have been humans that we missed. We saw no servants or slaves quarters, we may have seperated parents from children. For that matter, we may have left T'Cathan children who are also innocent victims.
On Jan 16, 2012 at 06:39 pm Renton Pern said :
- None! We gathered up everyone from the house before we left, that why some of up ended up staying behind because we had to send so many away that some of us had to leave by other means until I could prepare more transportion spheres.

- You freed some, how many did you leave to burn? how many innocent children did you leave to burn? As for going out of your way to do it? It's your duty as a human being and more so as a hero to free slaves and rescue those in danger just as it is mine. I have already atoned for my sins.

- Atonement?
For going out of my way to free brutilized slaves and uncovering a cult of demon worshipper?

- Brother Mason! You can't speak like that to Lord Pern! He's a Lord and Sergeant Ludo is, well, a Sergeant.
On Jan 16, 2012 at 01:48 pm Mason said :
- Sorry Pern but until you make some sort of atonement for your recent actions I have to class you in much the same group as our dear Sgt. Ludo. Your actions, especially recent ones, show you to be interested in personal gain, glory and power above all. With little regard to those you harm through your actions or cause to be harmed through your actions and inactions. Perhaps the T'Cathans are right and the pursuit of the dark arts corrupts those who pursue them.

- I think I understand. I think it's safe to say that the Ambassador was one of the bad T'Cathans so at least we're okay there. But I think you're saying we need to not only defeat and confound them but to do it in a way that is right and just.
I think I understand: our motives are as important as our deeds. We defeated the ambassador and found out about his evil but because of the way we did it, some people will see us as being evil too.

- Well, thats my personal feelings. I dislike T'Cathans for th way theyhave historically treated our people, as in humans asa group. I have seen that there are some good T'Cathans just as ther are bad humans, my father among them. What I truly mean is humans are better off without T'Cathans ruling over them and I will fight to overthrow them and stop the enslaving of humans or anyone. But, Pern's actions of late are not truly helping ovrthrow the T'Cathans or help humans except to make Perns richer.

- I thought you said we were better off without any T'Cathans?

- Perhaps we can dissuade him from further actions of the sort and get him to perform an act of penance for his greed. Perhaps donating a sum to a charity would help. I am certain if he continues in his evil ways my Goddess will not wish me to help him with healing and the sort as his actions are contrary to what is good for the people.

- So what should we do? I can't renounce Lord Pern. He has been a kind and generous master to my family for ages.

- Brother Delfra, I would like to recant my previous answer at least in part. The answer to who is the imperfect one is ...Myself. I should have foreseen Perns greed and lack of concern for who might be injured or harmed by his actions and stoppped him and the rest of our group from performing actions that were little more than the actions of brigands thieves and terrorists. I let my over all hatred and dislike of the T'Cathans blind me to how wrong some actions are.

- Brother Delfra, That can be a complicated question for aren't we all imperfect, admittedly some more than others. Althouggh, n this case I believe you refer to the forgotten god of the T'Cathans. it was his worship that brought the demons and such that destroyed the T'Cathan homeland before they invaded our lands. He and the demons and evils were brought forth using magic or science as Pern would have us believe.
Now as to the question of goodness, I am a firm believer that humans would be better off with the death of most T'Cathans. But to invade a home with the sole intention of robbing it and setting fire to it is wrong. The only good accomplished there was the destruction of the evil altar and the tapestry. I think we should all attone for the sins committed in the name of goodness and humanity. I personally find myself hungerng for a true quest where we defeat evil undead or monsters. This going places for profit is tedious and meaningless to all except those who are driven by greed.

- Begging your pardon Brother Mason, but I have some questions I hope you can explain.
First, who is the imperfect one?
Second, are we still the good guys? Breaking into someone's home and setting fire to it while stealing their stuff and endangering their whole household doesn't seem like the stuff good guys would do.

- Well that wasa splendind end to the Festival, don't youthink? Delfra took champion of the doktor Eekwalibirum's Maze of Deth. He was the first ever to complete it making him a wealthy man. We defeated a T'Cathan plot and managed to capture most of those involved which may lead us to further intrigue higher up the ladder. Not to mention the fact that we have further proof that the Human Gods have power and are letting it be seen.

- Sighh, almost sounds like you grew up on my fathers estate. I have seen him cut off servants hands for taking scraps fom the trash that he was going to feed to the animals. Then he had the servants entire family thrown off our land. I have disobeyed him and now he wants me killed as well.

- Yeah, we just had the cabbage. And water. Sometimes we'd get some not completely stale bread.
I remember once I climbed high into a tree and got an apple. I wanted to share it with my parents but my dad took me to the master and instead I got a beating for being a thief.

- Cabbage is a wonderfully versatile vegetable and a major ingredient in many peoples diets. I have done several dishes with cabbage including using its leaves to wrap other things like a ground venison and pine nut mix.

- My mother, may she rest in peace, was never much of a cook. My father did most of the cooking and I don't remember him ever having a recipe. We ate a lot of cabbage in them days. Red on holidays, green most days. Lord Pern's grandfather was a great man, but nowhere near as generous as his lordship.
