The Purifiers
Known Affiliations: Religous Groups
The Purifiers believe that mutants are the work of Satan and they must be cleansed from this world. They are extremists, zealots and militant. Many churches denounce them but there are rumors that the Vatican is backing them. Once they find a mutant they deal with it with extreme prejudice. Including the family to make sure no more are born or experience mutations.
United Mutant Agency (U.M.A)
The United Mutant Agency was formed by President Buchanan in 1858 but really has come to the front under President Lincoln after the 1863 Mutant Explosion. The U.M.A. was instituted to discover the cause of the mutations happening to people. When first announced the known "mutant population" was very low. Part of the reason for the Civil War was the discovery of the southern U.M.A. facilities using blacks for study in rather inhuman ways.
Under President Lincoln the U.M.A. was expanded to more of a observational operation. Many called it a police, others call it needed. However, during the Civil War when the Mutant Explosion hit many couldn't control their mutation and because very dangerous this is when the U.M.A. was really on the front lines with military support. Even in the south the Confederacy had the Confederate Mutant Watch.
Townsfolk
Jonathon MacIntyre
Owner of one of the biggest cattle ranches in Justice county. Also known as one of the nicest and most community aware men in the county. He often donates money to the school, church and orphanage.
Reginald Steele
Known Affiliations: U.S. Army (Union, Court-Martialed)
Owner of one of the biggest cattle ranches in Justice County and in general about 35% of Justice County. Land, businesses and even banks. Reginald's unit found an old lost pirate stash during Sherman's March to the Sea. Gold, silver, jewels where found. Enough to make each of them wealthy or just on of them very very wealthy. Reginald killed each of the men in his unit so he could have the pirate stash to himself. But that's only a rumor. Reginald does just happened to be the only one to survive an ambush by a splintered Confederate company and all of the pirate stash was lost to the Confederates. While many believed him many did not and one of them happened to be the brother of on of the men in Reginald's unit and also happened to be a Colonel. He had enough pull to have Reginald brought up on charges while they couldn't prove his murdered those men they were able to discharge him on some other minor infraction. Since then Reginald seems to have done very well for himself indeed.
Thadius Clawson, County Sheriff
Known Affiliations: U.S. Army (Union, Retired)
Thadius Clawson spent most his life was spent in the military. It's in his blood, five generations before him have served their countries. After the end of the Civil War Thadius retired and moved west to Justice. He's a fair man but believes in order. Justice is his town and his town is an orderly town. Those who tend to forget that generally require some time with Doc Grey and/or Dr. Hillaran.
