Background

During the clone wars Senator Palpatine was given emergency powers which he used to dissolve the Republic and form the Empire, with himself as it's ruler.

Palpatine's Empire has been noted for its brutal humancentric policies and militarization, including his outlawing of the Jedi order.

Recently there have been rumors of diverse elements meeting in secret to form a movement to overthrow Palpatine, but any such organization is still only in the planing stages.
