The Grand Empire of Sulest fell nearly two centuries past. Overwhelmed by war, natural disasters, and it's own decadence. One practice of the Grand Empire was The Pilgrimage, a circuit of it's many sacred sites. Knowledge of these sites has been reduced to the status of legend. A group has gathered to revive this practice and rediscover these sites. The Grand Temple of Cruciate is one of the few buildings from the Sulest Empire to survive intact, but the priests there do not allow visitors outside of the sanctuary.
The city of Cruciate sits at the junction of several trade routes. On the bank of the Daln River on the edge of the channel joining the Elba and Arres Seas. Sitting astride the roads to the Western Kingdoms and the Taltek Empire and the mysterious east. The trade that passes trough its sphere has made the city rich. And as a result the City's walls have been tested several times.
The city's streets teem with peoples from many lands, representing many races and cultures. All are welcome so long as they keep the peace. While merchants abound, craftsmen of all types also flourish. And of course the teamsters, mercenaries, and sailors who brought various goods to the city.

Religions
While not every god is venerated in Cruciate, those which are not honored are appeased. The Grand Temple in the old quarter has a shrine dedicated to each God. There are a number of temples throughout city, though none is endorsed or sponsored.
While it isn't surprising that the Druidic orders don't have a presence in Cruciate, there is said that there is a site holy to the druids perhaps a dozen miles to the west of the city.
